As Make a Will Month wraps up, we wanted to shed some light on the “Power of Attorney” also knowns as “the POA”. Did you know? A POA is a document that allows you to choose trusted individuals to make important decisions for you when you’re unable to do so yourself.

There are two types of POAs:

  1. A POA for Personal Care allows you to choose who can make decisions about your health, living arrangements, clothing, hygiene, nutrition and safety when you are unable to do so.
  2. A Continuing POA for Property allows you to choose who can make decisions about your finances and belongings. You decide if their authority begins immediately or only if you become unable to make these decisions.
