Biography

Tony Ma is an associate lawyer at PooranLaw. With experience in wills, estates, labour, employment, as well as human rights law, Tony works in all areas of the firm’s practice. He brings a compassionate and pragmatic approach to his work, whether he is fighting for justice in the workplace or on behalf of vulnerable individuals and groups. As an experienced advocate, Tony has assisted with or brought matters before various levels of court, including the Court of Appeal for Ontario, and administrative tribunals such as the Social Security Tribunal of Canada and the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal.

Prior to joining PooranLaw, Tony completed his articles at a premier estates litigation law firm in Toronto. There, he worked on issues dealing with capacity, guardianship, and will challenges, among others. During law school, Tony was a Caseworker at the University of Ottawa’s Employment Insurance Litigation Clinic, where he helped claimants challenge employment insurance decisions. As a legal intern at both the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal and a large public sector union, he also gained invaluable insight into practicing labour law and human rights law.

Prior to law school, Tony worked at multiple ministries of the Government of Ontario, as both a Policy Analyst and a Coordinator. There, he aided a cultural heritage organization and assisted in fundraising events and initiatives for various charities.

Outside of work, Tony enjoys hiking, weight training, and watching the Toronto Maple Leafs, Formula 1, and stand-up comedy.
